The next band attached to the 2019 North American Pipe Band Calendar came as QUITE the surprise!
While planning out my birthday trip to Yellowknife, NWT, Canada, I remembered I had been chatting on Twitter for some time with the NWT Pipe Band. It then occurred to me what a cool idea it would be to have likely the Northernmost Pipe Band in North America in the calendar (please correct me if I'm mistaken)! Welcome the Northwest Territories Pipe Band!!
I invited, and on pins and needles awaited their reply, and it was YES!! I mean, come ON, check out their BASS DRUM!!!!! It's a Narwhal FFS!
There have been many high points over the course of the past 40 years, such as performing for
Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, during their visit to Yellowknife in 2012;
Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Yellowknife in 1994;
Her Majesty, Queen Margrethe II, the Queen of Denmark, when Greenland celebrated home rule in 1978; and
His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, at the opening of the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife in 1978.
The Northwest Territorial Pipe Band plays frequently at community events. Although a recreational pipe band, it has played in competitions, most recently in Red Deer and Ellersley, AB. Some members play in competitions on their own, most recently in Kamloops, British Columbia.
