We are excited to announce that the 2019 North American Pipe Band Calendar will include the “Desert Big Horns” - The Las Vegas Pipe Band!!
This band was founded in 1999 as the Desert Skye Pipes and Drums - changing after 15 years to their current name, and is the only civilian pipe band in the area.
They are one of a few unique bands that actually wear custom tartan kilts - In 2001, a member of Desert Skye developed a brand new Nevada State tartan; the state legislature passed a resolution to officially recognize the tartan as the official State Tartan of Nevada, and it was registered with the Lord Lyon in Scotland. The band was then outfitted with new Nevada State tartan kilts, designed by one of their own!
Over time, they’ve become a competitive Grade 4 band, with performances alongside The Chieftains and other top Celtic music acts to attest to their talent.
In recent years, they’ve become very active in social media promotions, even being nominated for “Best Pipe Band Social Media” on The Big Rab Show’s annual awards (The Big Rab Show is based in Northern Ireland and covers pipe bands world wide).
We are heading out to Vegas next Tuesday to meet up with the band and complete the photo shoot.
Any ideas who's been chosen to rep the band in the 2019 NAPB Calendar??
