The summer is already drawing to a close, though it’s still sweltering in NYC and September brings a HUGE month of events, for me at least!
Let’s stick to this weekend for now…
Near NYC? Check out the Long Island Scottish Festival & Highland Games hosted by Clan MacDuff on Saturday the 27th. You’ll find Celtic dancers, caber tossers, pipe bands and more at this annual festival at Old Westbury Gardens. Think you might have trouble getting there? The NY Caledonian Club has you covered with round-trip transportation to the Games from Manhattan (AND it’s cheaper than taking public transportation!). Just go to their page and pick up your ticket!
For competition pipe bands and solos, Quechee Vermont is where the action’s at this weekend at the Quechee Highland Games in Vermont. ‘Scottish Arts, St Andrews Dancers of VT, St Andrews VT Pipe Band, Salt Hill Pub and other organizations have come together to continue the Quechee Highland Games. Now in its 44th year, the Games is a great place to bring families to experience the “Culture of the Celts!” Highland Dancing, Solo Piping, Pipe Bands, Clans, Sheep Dogs, Athletics, Fiddlers, Vendors and Great food….a great day out!’
Over in Colorado, the Colorado Military Taptoo takes place this upcoming weekend in Colorado Springs. The Colorado Military Taptoo is a patriotic, entertaining, and inspiring show that will feature over 400 performers including military bands, bagpipe bands, choirs, and other unique performance groups from the world over, in the two-hour fast-paced extravaganza. The show will be lit with vibrantly colored lighting and hundreds of performers will move, dance, and interact with the always changing floor.
