Can you believe summer is already coming to a close? I can’t believe how fast it flew by. I’m sure a big reason for me was the nonstop work on the calendar. It’s being released this weekend and I hope that you all enjoy it and support the bands involved by purchasing for yourself and others. It was definitely a labor of love.
Let’s get going on events, we have a lot!
Both the Canmore Highland Games and the Calgary Highland Games are happening this weekend on the 5th and 6th. You’ll find Highland Dancing, beer gardens, massed bands, Ceilidhs, whisky tasting and more at these festivals.
The Calgary Highland Games is one of the oldest gatherings in North America and will be celebrating 102 years since the first games, held in 1913.
The Sesquicentennial Scottish Highland Gathering & Games takes place at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton on September 5 - 6, 2015. The Friday night concert at the San Ramon Marriott with Albannach and more will kick off the Games. The games are sponsored by the Caledonian Club of San Francisco.
You can catch MacMillan Pipe Band at The Virginia Scottish Games along with Warrior 360 competing in some Scottish Heavy Athletics. That’s TWO months of calendar models at ONE games!! If you see them, snap a picture and share it on W&T Facebook or Twitter, and be sure to pick up a calendar from them!!
I’ll be in Upstate New York at the Capital District Scottish Games in Altamont on Saturday 5 September – the games runs all weekend long. Veterans and Military receive 50% off their gate admission on both Saturday and Sunday. Pipe and drum bands, Highland Dancing, heavy athletics, clan village and a ceilidh with The American Rogues should make for a great weekend to close out the summer.
