Over the past few days, you may have seen a few teasers about a really exciting new project from W&T.
I have to admit, when the idea flooded into my brain upon waking one morning, I was full speed ahead, pen scribbling furiously on my notepad. As I moved forward, I began to have those little doubts in the back of my head that just pang your insides saying, "no way can you pull this off" "what if this, what if that". But no more. Raising money for pipe bands has been a passion of mine for quite a while, as many of you know, but I hadn't yet had the right outlet or idea to move forward..... until now.
Announcing the Official North American Pipe Band (NAPB) Calendar.
Throughout the next month, I will be highlighting my 12 calendar musicians, along with the amazing supporters that share my vision and are just coming from EVERYWHERE. Scotland, Canada, and all over the U.S. My heart is so full of butterflies and unicorns that I can't contain myself!
These calendars provide money DIRECTLY to the pipe bands. The bands will receive a minimum of 75% of all proceeds. This money goes toward their (very expensive) hand sewn kilts, travel to competitions and parades, lessons and instruments.
Metro are the 2012 Gr 2 North American Pipe Band Champions, 2011 Gr 3B World Champions & placed 3rd at the World Pipe Band Championships in 2013 before being upgraded to Gr 2.
Kevin is a 3rd generation piper. Kevin's Grandfather was a pipe band drummer in Ireland and he and Kevin’s Great Uncle played in the County Tyrone Pipe Band here in New York.
He spent his early years with the Tara Pipes and Drums in Massapequa, NY. After this he joined The Saffron United Pipe Band in 1997 and spent many years competing on the Grade 2 level with the band and competing as a soloist.
Kevin is a 2004 graduate of Iona College, NY where he served as Pipe Major. While on an exchange program in Australia, Kevin came to know members of the Grade 1 Western Australia Police Pipe Band. This led to playing with The Australian Highlanders for a few seasons, before going on to become a founding member of the New York Metro Pipe Band. Kevin is currently a teacher at Massapequa High School.
As they prepare to compete at the Glengarry Games in Maxville, Ontario at the North American Championships in a few weeks, please enjoy the video above and give New York Metro Pipe Band your support by picking up calendars and following them on Facebook and Instagram!
