    Event Wednesday

    Siouxsie

Plan on checking out the Ohio Scottish Games if you are anywhere near the area of Wellington.  The Glengarry Bhoys and Charlie Zahm will be perfmorming and Red Hot Chilli Piper Craig Munro will judge the Highland Games and then teach at the Ohio Scottish Arts School.

The Celtic Fling and Highland Games at Mount Hope Estate and Winery in PA looks like an amazing time. How could it not be with Albannach on the pipes and drums?  Enjoy traditional pipe bands, celtic music and cuisine, and fresh brewed Swashbuckler Ales!

If you are in San Diego this weekend, you might hear the hum of the pipes.  It's the San Diego Scottish Highland Games on Saturday and Sunday.  The event kicks off 7:00pm Friday night the 26th at Brengle Terrace Park in Vista, CA with "Tales and Legends of Scotland". The Kevin R. Blandford Memorial Pipe Band will be there.

TRIVIA: The original R.P. Blandford & Son Pipe Band was formed in 1986 by pipe major Kevin R. Blandford, who led the band to several West Coast championship titles and a second-place award at the 2000 World Championships in Scotland.

After Blandford's death in November 2003, the band changed its name to the Kevin R. Blandford Memorial Pipe Band. From 2004 until 2008, Blandford's student and successor, Matt Nonnemacher, led the band to more titles, including a third- and fifth-place finish at the World Championships in 2004 and 2007, respectively.

The European Pipe Band Championships are on Saturday 27 June in Forres, Moray, Scotland.

Thousands of pipers and drummers from far and wide, in over a hundred bands, will compete to be European Champions in their grade. Pipe Majors and Highland Dancers also compete in this event, run under the auspices of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA). Benromach Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky are again the title sponsor.

Some of the major competitors include Oban High School (go Matthew Mackenzie!!), Lanark and District (old friends from 2015 NY Tartan Week!) and in Grade 1 Inveraray and District, ScottishPower and Shotts and Dykehead.  Should be a great day. My prediction for Grade 1 winner? Field Marshal Montgomery.  Best of luck to ALL of the bands competing, can't wait to see some clips on YouTube!

Also wishing my friends on Team Shetland the very best of luck at the NatWest Island Games!!  They're on the ferry just now to Aberdeen and from there a flight to Jersey!

As always, check the events page for more local listings and events.  Have a great weekend!
