This weekend, June 19th and 20th sees the Chicago Scots Festival and Highland Games in Itasca, Illinois. A Parade of Clan Tartans and attendee competitions British Car Show featuring vintage automobiles, Haggis Hurling Contest for women, Knobbly Knees contest for men, Haggis Eating Contest and Shortbread Contest are perennial favorites. Skerryvore will be performing live!
Also, in Colorado, there is the Pikes Peak Celtic Festival featuring whisky tasting, Idavellr Vikings, pipe and drum competitions, Highland athletics and Albannach! We'll forgive them for spelling "whisky" incorrecly on their flyer.
TRIVIA: The 78th Frasers became the first non-Scottish band to win the World Pipe Band Championships, in the summer of 1987, breaking Strathclyde Police Pipe Band's (now Greater Glasgow Police Scotland Pipe Band) run of six consecutive wins.
There will be competitions for Grades 1-5, Highland dancing, Clan village, heavy athletics and a water park!
If you're in Upstate New York, the Glengarry Bhoys will be performing in Homer at the Center for the Arts on Saturday the 20th at 8:00pm. This is a FANTASTIC band, so if you're in the area, make sure to attend!
Sadly, there are no games within reach of me this weekend, so I'll be at the Coney Island Mermaid Parade with one of my best friends visitng from L.A.
As always, check the events page for details and even MORE events! Have a great weekend!
