I met Louise on Twitter (it feels like) many moons ago. I’ve always been fond of her music and kept in touch with show dates. She’s told me about bands (like Treacherous Orchestra, WOW!) and I have hopefully kept her informed of something or other.
I so wish I was in Scotland this month, because I’d definitely be at the Red Roof on Skye for the first date. But, I’m hoping since I’m not, some of you will go check out these talented ladies and share your photos and experience with us!
Here is some more information on the duo:
10 years ago, in the now defunct New York music bar, C -Note, Louise Cairns (Glasgow) & Sara Genn (New York) shared a bill & met for the first time. That night Sara played to roughly a dozen people. Louise, maybe 3...
Several (notably better) shared bills (London's Bush Hall, Edinburgh Fringe, New York's Living Room), scrappy tours, Albums, EP's, children later, they're throwing (delicately) Louise's electric piano & Sara's fender Rhodes in the back of the car & taking a music fuelled road-trip around Scotland, playing some collaborative shows in some delightful venues. It's their teeny-tiny tour and they'd love you to come along!
Glasgow's Louise Cairns released her new EP 'Home' in October 2014, which features contributions from John Sommerville (Treacherous Orchestra), Michael McDaid (Paolo Nutini), Scot MacKay (Manran, Roddy Hart and The Lonesome Fire) and Simone Welsh.
Tracks from her debut album, 'Here because you're not' (2010) were used on TV shows both in the UK and US and her live performances have taken her to Celtic Connections in Glasgow, London's Bush Hall and The Living Room in New York, where she has also where she has also played at the City's Annual NY Tartan Week celebrations. Louise recently composed music for theatre show 'Atropa Nights' which premiered at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow and will be touring Scotland in 2015. Currently, she is resident pianist/vocalist at Metropolitan and 29 Royal Exchange Sq.
New York-based Canadian Sara Genn's Fender Rhodes trio is a moving meditation on longing and creative desire. Her third release is the chamber-butter lovenote, “Lifedrawing.”
She collaborates with French electronic producer Wax Tailor, writing songs and texts, recording and touring for his releases "In the Mood For Life" (2009) and "Dusty Rainbow From The Dark" (2012). This project is certified gold in France and recently toured with the Orchestre Nationale de Lille.
Genn has also been featured in The London Papers and in FLARE, has licensed for independent films and her music has been used by Honda, RW&Co and on the NBC drama "Lipstick Jungle". Tours in Europe, including the Edinburgh Festival have brought features on independent radio in NY, the UK and Switzerland. She’s also been included on the compilations "Dean's List" (NYU) and "Electroacoustic Club" (London).
Sara Genn is also a visual artist, her paintings have been featured by Nissan Infiniti and in Tatler, New York Magazine, Town and Country, Canadian House and Home and Domino. Her work is represented by Voltz Clarke in New York City as well as other galleries across Canada and the US.
Please take the opportunity to check out these ladies this summer!
