It’s hump day! What better time to start planning the weekend ahead? This weekend, there are events all over!
On the east coast, the 55th Annual Fair Hill Scottish Games will be held on Saturday. In addition to the pipe and drum bands, highland dancing and athletics, there are some great musical acts this year like Albannach, Searson and the king of the Highland Games, Charlie Zahm (that’s for you, Linda!)
The Rio Grande Valley Celtic Festival will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday and Sunday with tons of merchandise vendors, athletics, pipe bands and all sorts of Celtic entertainment.
The Saskatchewan Highland Gathering & Celtic Festival is all weekend at Victoria Park in Regina, Canada! They have an incredibly clever ad this year that I personally LOVE. These games include the Western Canadian Scottish Athletics Championships Invitational and some great pipe and drum bands. If you’re in the area, be sure to check these games out!
In East Tennessee, you have the Smoky Mountain Scottish Festival & Games at Maryville College all weekend long. Their Friday night gala is sold out, but there’s still plenty left to do! I think I might head to TN and check this one out next year. Events include the Smoky Mountain Highland Half Marathon and 5K Run, Battle Axe Throw (WHAT!!), Highland Dancing, Military Tribute, Haggis Hurl, Swordfighting, Whisky Tastings and a ceilidh under the stars. I mean, this sounds amazing! Also, Highland Reign are playing!
On Sunday in Scotland, you have the Gordon Castle Highland Games and Country Fair in Moray Speyside. Gordon Castle is the spiritual home of the house of Gordon and dates back to the 1470's. Gordons from all over the world can enjoy the event and at the same time see the historic grounds and exterior of the buildings.
As always, check out the W&T events page for a complete listing of events all over the U.S., Canada and Scotland! And feel free to leave a comment on the page to let me know what you think!
