Waking up at 6am on a SATURDAY is not something I would normally do, but we’re now 2 weeks out from the NY Tartan Day Parade and NY Tartan Week, so it seemed fitting to meet the guys from Shamrock & Thistle Pipes & Drumsout in Toms River, NJ for their 18th Annual Pub Tour! Especially since they invited me as their guest!
I decided to take the express bus from Port Authority, which takes about 90 minutes, give or take.
Christopher’s Pub is our first stop and I'm guessing this is going to be a LONG but very fun day.
Enjoy the photos and video on my social media pages and hope to see you next year for this fun day!
As a note, The Shamrock and Thistle Pipe Band was founded in February 1974. To outfit the band now, it costs approximately $2,500.00 per person. Parades, concerts, and contests were entered in order to offset these costs. After 41 seasons the Shamrock and Thistle Pipe Band has compiled an admirable record, including numerous appearances at festivals, ethnic affairs, and bicentennial events.
The band has attended dedications all over New Jersey and New York, including the New Jersey Vietnam Memorial, Gulf War Veterans in Seaside Heights, and the 175th Anniversary in Freehold for the Adelphia Fire Company. The band has traveled to Ireland to participate in St. Patrick's Day Parade in Galway and Dublin, and Scotland where they played at the Stirling Highland Games.
The bright yellow color of the dress MacLeod Tartan and the "skirl" of the pipers and drummers will surely strike a thrill in your soul.
